Hi Ryan
Is that the Sanyo you bought from me? If so did you resolve the issues it had? |

I can tell you something about that. In Dad's shop we had a Sanyo player that was marked Sears. This was back in the late 80s or early 90s. I asked him about it and he said that, because the Hitachi models weren't ready yet in early 1981, Sears had contacted RCA to provide some players based on the SFT 100. That's shown in the reference guide of course, and he knew it because he was working at RCA at the time.
But Sears, hedging a bit, also contacted Sanyo to provide players in case RCA did not want to do so or did not have any available. If you recall, Sanyo made Beta VCRs for Sears, of which I still have one. Turned out they agreed to get some from Sanyo, and then RCA also agreed to provide, and Sears could not back out of the Sanyo agreement, so they bought the minimum. This was all in an internal RCA memo he remembered seeing where RCA execs stated that they'd be providing players to Sears, even though Sears purchased a small quantity of Sanyo players.
Along with the Sanyo players, Sears was required to buy several replacement remotes to sell for those who broke or lost their remotes. that's probably what you got, unless you got a remote that was loose from it's player. I think that's a really rare find, and if you find the player, that's even more rare. Sears probably only got a hundred or so of the Sanyo models, not more than 500 I'm pretty sure. That Sears/Sanyo player we had he sold at a pretty good price as I recall. |

Yes sir Charlie! I put a new belt on, got a great stylus in it, greased a gear, and the stylus arm' rod? and now it works like a champ! The sears remote is from the interwebs, the sanyo remote is from cedatum, I got a sanyo in the box! But that was your player in the video!
Thanks for all the info rix, nice lil nugget of info!! I knew sears did the sft clone cause I have one, that had to be cool to see the sanyo/sears player though! _________________ I dont own

Very interesting. I knew that Sanyo manufactured Betmax VCRs for Sears, which were sold under the name Betavision, but I thought the Sears CED players were manufactured by Hitachi Limited of Japan.
I have only seen pictures of the Sanyo CED player, never up close or in action. By the way, which movie is playing in the video? |

| Sears did sell the Hitachi/Sears machines later in 1981 and afterward, but the Sears/Sanyo machines were before that and in very limited numbers. |

The movie is Serpico! Man I would love to just see the sears/sanyo even though the only difference is likely just the logo hahaha! _________________ I dont own
