You always look for any possible caddies sticking up in thrift store record racks. (And if you see any, you leap high in the air!)
You know where side 1 of your favorite movies end- even if you're watching them on Blu-Ray or DVD. _________________ Videodisc and stereo sound- there's no better value around! |

Jesse,
I have to admit, I have done both...
Thrift stores just aren't what they use to be, now they kick you out if you are jumping and leaping about holding a couple of dirty, cracked CEDs. First they think you are nuts for buying those wierd discs. Second, they think you are nuts cause you are so excited about buying those wierd discs... |

You own every CED disc ever made and your dream is to own the disc that was put on Voyager. Not the TV series, the space probe... |

Alchemy,
Did you pick up all those discs from a guy in Oregon City? I saw his ad on Craigslist. He had it advertised with a player. Did you get the player too?
I live in Newberg, OR. Now there are at least 4 from Oregon on this forum. Of course Tom (Mr. CEDmagic) being number 1.

Yepper, made the drive to OC. I passed on the player. If you are interested in that- it's the coin/hobby shop on 7th.
So when's the Oregon contingent having a movie night? _________________ Scott

I thought about buying all those discs, until reality sank back in...I already have a very large collection of CEDs and really don't have the space for a large 500 disc collection on top. Plus I would end up with a lot of duplicates that I would have to sell or give away. I am glad that you got them and now have an instant super collection. I hope he gave you a deal, especially since you passed on the player. He was asking $290 for all.
As to a movie night, we will have to see. Ancientformats is the other Oregonian. I have met him and picked up some discs from him. He is a great guy!

Sounds like I should move to Oregon- though at least CED Central was in Sacramento for a while, before the owner moved and sold it all (and now nobody seems to know what became of it- the website is gone!) _________________ Videodisc and stereo sound- there's no better value around! |

I recently bought a DVD from the guy from CED Central. He was actually moving his family out of the country for a new job overseas. I believe his name was James Curiel. |

Yes, I 'authored' that DVD for him- before he moved he sold the inventory to someone in Southern CA, but they never put it back online. I was hoping to replace all my less-than-perfect condition discs with ones from there, but didn't have enough money to get them all when they were close by (did get a sealed "Eroticize" though, which is a must-have just for the music!) _________________ Videodisc and stereo sound- there's no better value around! |

I paid the guy $200 for the 500 discs and he was happy to move them down the road- I think I got a decent deal. Sure there's some beat up ones and some dupes, but on the whole- I'm satasfied.
FYI: I might take a ride down to the Yuba City area in a week or 2- so movie night is only 500 miles away Maybe if we had a member around Redding we could do a get together next summer? _________________ Scott

Alchemy,
That is so funny, I thought about making a $200 offer, or trading some old school videogame consoles and games. Again, that disc count stopped me in my tracks...
$200 is a great deal for 500 discs. I hope you find some real gems in the bunch. Beetlescott found some rare discs when he bought a large collection. You just never know.
Nice to have another Oregon member in the club!

If I recall (did the tally the other night) there about 40 rare and 12 very rare in the group.
Now I need to build a cabinet to hold it all, the perks of working in a cabinet shop- I can make really nice stuff for cheap _________________ Scott

The thing with buying movies, as I am learning the steps:
1. You don't want to end up with a bunch of duplicates,
2. You don't want a bunch with certian stores sticker on them,(rentals)
3. You don't want a bunch of discs that has been stacked flat on top of each other, (the bottom ones are ruined.
In my short time back into this wonderful format, I bought 55 movies from a guy, about 40% of them played pretty good, About 40% of them wouldn't play at all, leaving 20% that played mediocre.
Congrats on your find!!!! I too am looking for a way to store mine, I found some extra thick cardboard boxes that are almost exactly the same size, they work great. I would love to find something like Deanjeep has!!! _________________ SGT-250

It was a site run by someone in Sacramento- he had a bunch of discs, most of them unsold stock from a store in Canada, and also sold and repaired players. I was lucky enough to visit him a couple times- the discs sure were something to see. He ended up moving though and couldn't move the stuff with him, so he sold the whole thing to someone I think in Southern CA- as far as I know they moved everything but never got the website back up. _________________ Videodisc and stereo sound- there's no better value around! |

It sure would be interesting to know what happened to all those wonderful CEDs. CEDpro, a guy I heard about on this site, lives in central Kentucky. I got to meet him a couple of weeks ago. Very nice guy. It's great to have someone this close that repairs soand refurbishes & rebuileds players. He has been in the business for over 10 years/q _________________ SGT-250

Beetlescott, the SJT/SKT repair DVD that I sent you is from the guy that ran CED Central. He now lives overseas somewhere. I got the DVD from him just before he moved. |
